Building from the ground up since 1987

Paul Davey is the third generation of Davey builders. More than 138 new homes and 1,000 renovations later, his clients still always know where things stand.

Three generations of Davey builders

Joseph Patrick Davey was born in County Sligo, Ireland, in 1901. At 15 he was apprenticed to a master carpenter, and he stayed with him for ten years. In 1926 he came to America, settled in the Bronx and started Sligo Construction.

His grandson, Paul Davey, is the third generation of Daveys to build. Paul learned carpentry in the Sewanhaka High School program and spent four years with a builder in Floral Park. In 1987 he founded Sligo Construction Corp.

The first house

Paul built his first Long Island house in Brentwood when he was 22. A fire had taken the house down to its foundation, and the neighbors saw an eyesore. Six months later it was the best-looking house on the block.

Since then, Sligo has built more than 138 new homes and completed more than 1,000 renovations across Long Island and in Westchester County. Today we build on the North Fork from Southold, NY, and on Maryland's Eastern Shore from Chestertown, MD.

Built to last

Every Sligo home is designed and built to stand for at least 150 years. If Paul sees something that can be done better, he walks you through it, and if it makes sense, we make the change. Our value engineering cuts the costs that don't add anything to the house, so your budget goes into the work that matters.

How we work

It starts with a phone call. Paul asks about your land, what you want, your budget and timeline, and whether you have plans yet. He'll tell you straight what it takes, including costs, design and schedule. No surprises. Then you meet face to face, at your property or on one of our job sites, so we can both see whether we're a good fit.

Many clients save time and money by working with the architect we trust.

Paul is on site at every project several days a week, in addition to our full-time project management. You'll have weekly on-site meetings or video calls, and you can reach Paul and your project manager by phone, text or email. In Paul's words: "We treat our clients the way we would want to be treated."

A family business

Sligo is still a family business. Paul's wife, Lisa, has worked alongside him for 35 years. She helps clients choose cabinetry, tile and fixtures, the first things anyone notices in a home. She also handles the things nobody controls, like permits, weather and deliveries, so Paul can stay focused on the build.

"I truly believe that Paul is one of the best builders out there because he cares. His name and reputation reflect on the family, and for him nothing less than honesty and quality will work." — Lisa Davey

Paul's daughters grew up on his job sites. When they were little, they thought every new house was going to be theirs.

Our core subcontractors have been with us for 8 to 26 years, from the excavator to the painters. As one client put it, “They all work together like a huge family!”

Paul has been doing this work for 43 years, the last 39 of them as Sligo. He loves it, and he isn’t slowing down.
